We have been watching with interest 'The Truth about Your Teeth' on the BBC. There are some really interesting learnings that we would like to share with you, in case you missed it.

Whether you have children to teach good habits to, or want to preserve the health of your teeth and avoid dental decay there is alot to learn. We think that it is just a case of simply brushing your teeth everyday, but what could you be missing out on?

Having a comprehensive dental insurance plan in place is a good idea and we can help, but having healthy teeth and gums is always the best place to start.

Here are some key facts ...

As a nation, we spend over £800 million a year on dental products. However unless you are following a good dental routine, cleaning your teeth for two minutes twice a day with a good fluoride toothpaste, you are reducing effectiveness.

In the morning, it is best to clean your teeth straight away, this removes all the bacteria that has been breeding in your mouth overnight. Ensuring that you don't eat it during breakfast! A quick way to ensure that you leave the house with fresh breath, is to rinse with mouthwash before leaving the house.

Do you have a special way to clean your teeth to make sure you cover every part of your mouth? You should start from one corner of your mouth and work all the way around. This ensures that every tooth is covered.

Don't use too much toothpaste and don't brush too hard, save those gums, they're delicate!

Finally and this was a new one to us, did you know that you shouldn't actually rinse your mouth with water after brushing? If you don't rinse, the toothpaste left continues to protect your teeth.
