Why do I Need a Dental Check-up?

A dental check up is one of the most important elements of oral care.  All of our dental insurance policies cover dental check-ups, so to get the most of your policy, you can claim for two check-ups a year and preserve your oral health.  This should also help you to avoid the expense treatments and making claims on your dental insurance policy.

Bupa Dental Insurance

Even if you think there is nothing wrong with your teeth, maintaining a regime of dental check-ups is a key part of your oral healthcare.  Even better, this is covered in your insurance policy, so there are no additional costs for you.  Regular dental check-ups mean that any emerging issues are quickly dealt with and can avoid them developing into more serious issues

What is a Dental Check-up?

At a dental check up, your dentist will check your whole mouth, teeth and gums to make sure that everything is healthy.  Your dentist will advise you on the best frequency for your check ups.

What Happens at a Dental Check-up?

At every check-up, your dentist will:

  • Examine your mouth, teeth, gums, cheeks and tongue.

  • Ask you questions about any problems or pain you’ve had since your last check-up.

  • Give you advice on things you can do to improve your oral health such as recommendations on your diet, how to brush, oral hygiene, etc…

Your dentist may also need to take X-rays of your mouth to check for any hidden problems such as decay and bone loss due to gum disease .

If you have a build-up of plaque, you may be referred to a hygienist to perform a scale and polish, or your dentist may do this straightaway if necessary. Sometimes, hygienist treatments are carried out in the same appointment as your check-up.

Your dentist will also check for any signs of mouth cancer or other general diseases that can affect the mouth at each dental check-up. If any further problems are identified, your dentist will recommend the next steps to take.

The length of the visit will vary on how often you visit and if the dentist discovers any issues, for example you may require x-rays.  If you have dental insurance cover the cost of your vist and any hygienist treatments will be covered.

We have been delighted with Get Dental and would highly recommend it to individuals or other companies for dental insurance. The policy is inexpensive and gives a wide cover of all aspects of dental care.

Our practice has greatly benefited from working with Get Dental Plans mainly as a result of the Corporate dental plan from BUPA as this allows patients to receive the treatment they need rather than the treatment they can afford.
